Jasper Newton Daniel, known as 'Jack' became a licensed distiller at the age of 16. The distillery was founded in 1875

Legend has it the recipe was an old family one taken over to USA when Jack emigrated from Wales. An old recipe was found recently directly linking this story with Jack Daniels

The one thing that Jack Daniel's has that almost no other distillery has is the Tennessee River Valley and some of the best water for whiskey in the world. That, and Jack Daniel's is filtered through maple charcoal prior to casking, adding complexety and uniqueness.
