Who went deaf on tv show Mash?

Corporal Max Klinger suffered a brief period of deafness due to a grenade going off close to him. He almost received his discharge on medical grounds, but at the last moment his hearing returned.

In the final episode/movie of M*A*S*H, Father Mulcahey went deaf after trying to save some POWs from shell fire. However, a spinoff show - AfterM*A*S*H - starring Mulcahy, Klinger and Colonel Potter had Father Mulcahy regaining his hearing in the first episode. (The spinoff show did not last very long.)

Who is still alive from the TV show MASH?

All the main cast members except for Larry Linville (Frank Burns) and Maclean Stevenson (Lt-Col Henry Blake) are still alive.

We can now add, sadly, Harry Morgan to this list of greats from the MASH series. Interesting side note here, if you consider Trapper John, M.D. to be part of MASH (it was considered a spin off) then Pernell Roberts can be added to the list at least of actors playing MASH characters. The only reference to MASH ever in the series, besides the name, was the opening in which Trapper (Roberts) is having a dream and calling out "Hawkeye, Rader..." Other than the opening, Trapper had no other apparent connections although I always wanted to see a visit by someone from MASH on the series.

How did Walter Radar O'Reilly die in MASH 4077?

I do not believe that Radar died at all. If I am not mistaken, he survived the war and was in an episode or two of the ill-fated 'AfterMASH' spin-off with Potter, Klinger and Father Mulcahy.

Radar's uncle Ed died, leaving his mum alone to run the farm. This was grounds for a hardship discharge from the army. He was wounded once in the episode "fallen idol" season 6, and in other episodes, bitten by a dog for which he got rabies shots and had a tonsillectomy, all requiring him to be hospitalised at the 4077 - but he never died in the series.

Why did Gary Burghoff leave the series of MASH?

On M*A*S*H, Radar's uncle died and his mother needed his help since she was otherwise alone tending to the family farm. He was able to leave the army on compassionate grounds. In real life, Gary Burghoff made the choice to leave because he wished to spend more time with his family.
