Turtles like to hang out by the water's edge, where it's very damp so they won't dry up.If you live near any woodland,it would be a good idea to check under leaves and see if they are hanging around in the shade (they like shady spots too). But be careful if your checking under leaves.(It might not be a turtle!) Turtles are most likely to be at the edge of woodland on sunny days. They can't dry up or they will die from not having moisture in their bodies.
Turtles bury their eggs for several reasons, most of which are to ensure the safety of the eggs. The eggs obtain the heat they require to hatch from the hot sand of the beach they are buried in. Burying the eggs also helps keep them out of reach from predators.

Yes, turtles bury themselves to keep warm, and to help retain moisture. My box turtles also bury them selves in their bedding at night when they sleep. :D
Whether turtles like or dislike vibrations probably depends on the individual turtle. Some will like it and some won't. Turtles that are more fearful or aggressive may not like vibrations much. It is known that turtles do have a very strong sense of touch and can detect vibrations in the ground or floor easily. Many wild turtles use the vibrations as a warning that they should hide. Some friendly or domesticated turtles like vibrations and even being petted. Some turtles have been witnessed rubbing their carapace (the back shell) back and forth on rough surfaces or the fingernails of a person scratching them.

They're just like, "Hey man, I want to swim, and maybe eat some lettuce. But I'm gonna take my time getting there, I'm not in a rush. Because I'm a turtle."

Land turtles defend themselves by going in their shells or finding holes to hide in. Sea turtles find places to hide and also go in their shell for protection.
Small animals like turtles know they have no defense against larger animals, so they run so they can hide and get eaten.
