Lent is celebrated to show our penance to God for all the sins we have committed. In lent, you fast, abstain, share, give, pray, and it is supposed to be a time of peace, meditation, and reflection. Every Lent, you are supposed to give up something that you most enjoy. Or you can start doing more things as a daily routine. For example, I am giving up swearing and junk food.
We celebrate Lent, as we remember the 40 days Jesus fasted in the wilderness.
Catholic Answer Lent is the season of prayer and penance to prepare for Easter, originally it was a period for the catechumens to get ready for their baptism, but very early it was extended to everybody in the Church. It also makes the long feast of Easter more worthwhile when you have deprived yourself for so long. The main purpose is to conform your life more closely to Our Blessed Lord through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
