Why do we give Christmas presents?

Millions of people worldwide celebrate Christmas for various reasons. Some enjoy festive times with friends and family. Otheres think about God or devote time to helping the poor or the needy.

By themselves these are undoubtedly worthy deeds. However, they are clouded by the dark side of this holiday.

Many celebrants believe that Christmas is a birthday celebration for Jesus. Historians widely concur that the date of his birth is unknown. The Bible gives no indication that Jesus ever celebrated his own birthday or anyone else's.

In contrast, he did command his followeres to commemorate his death. Read Luke 22: 19

The Externals of the Catholic Church observed:

When we give and receive gifts, and hand green wreaths in our homes and churches, how many of us are aware that we are probably observing pagan customs?

The Book of Amos 5: 21,23 shows that in ancient Israel: that God expressed his hate for their festivals. Does that not tell us how God feels about many Christmas celebrations today.

Spending time with friends and family and in helping the poor and needy whenever it is possible throughout the year is rewarding for many.

As the Bible quotes in the Book of Acts 20: 35 " There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.

So to answer your question on why we give Christmas presents? These customs are based on pagan belief and is encouraged by the world of business. And people's behaviour such as over eating and drinking has nothing to do with what te Bible teaches.
