Birds fly because flight is an evolutionary adaptation they've developed. Most tend to have powerful muscles around the chest area to give them the strength to displace the air around them. Their wings provide them with a way to move air and to create lift. Their hollow bones also drastically reduce their weight and allow them to get off of the ground.
