Cats shed their fur to keep them from overheating in the warmer months. If it's not too warm and your cat is shedding excessively, he/she might have a serious illness. If this occurs, take your cat to a veternarian immediately!

A cat needs to shed their fur year round, they shed most during spring and early summer, getting rid of all their winter fur. Short-haired cats usually shed fur less than long furred cats. If you want your cat to not shed as much, try brushing out their fur regularly, and possibly give it a bath every now and then.

It's not just white cats that shed a lot of fur. It really depends on the breed of the cat and how much you brush it. Brushing your cat helps some of the fur to come out loosely and not all over the floor.

It is probably just by accident because they are cleaning themselves and it comes off too much on their tongue and they can't get it out of their mouth.

What breed of cat does not shed?

Although I'm not sure that there are any cats that shed no fur at all, you might take a look at the Cornish Rex and Devon Rex who have a tightly curled short coat which feels like crushed velvet and looks much like Astrakhan. There is a breed of cat that has no fur called the Sphynx, so this would be one that certainly wouldn't shed.None, there is a myth that some don't shed but it is a myth - all animals shed, some just shed less than others.
