Because in most weddings, the wedding is only about the Bride. The groom is only looked at during the first few minutes while he's standing there until the Bride makes her appearance. Then all eyes are on the bride the rest of the evening.
I think that its because in a store where you buy a wedding dress they wont have dresses of every size to rent they only have a few. So they might not fit most women. But men their are more varieties and can tailor them, you cant tailor a dress unless its yours.
