Becuase of the different standards held to women and men in the past it was a womans job to look pretty and work in the home this puts more pressure on women to keep up apperances as broken nails are annoying when you are trying to grow your nails also colds make people more unattactive and affects women more also women tend to discuss these things but generAly it's just because they don't like having a cold or broken nail and want sympathy----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- my answer is
