I'm afraid you are the only one having the answer for that, meaning you should "halt time" and make an effort to understand, to see beyond the obvious, to make connections. Relationships are all about give and take. A couple is happy together when both parties feel that they're getting what they need. When balance is broken (usually due to a stressful situation in a specific time frame), one of them should compensate by giving more and expecting less, until equilibrium is restored. The 'bleeding' and the bitterness start when one of the parties feel unbalanced all the times or most of the time. I think that it takes a lot of hurt (in all its forms, i.e., misunderstanding, loneliness, lack of respect, etc.) to get someone out of the door for good. Think about it.
