because when you exercise your muscles require more oxygen so your heart will beat faster to get the oxygen to the mucsles. since your blood goes through the lungs and your heart is beating faster you must breathe faster to get a sufficient amount of oxygen.

The reason we need to breath faster when we do exercise is so we can take in more oxygen quickly. Our heart beats faster so oxygen can be taken to the cells more quickly. We feel hotter because respiration is happening at a faster rate. During lots of physical exercise the blood cannot supply enough oxygen for the cells needs.
