Because for Christians, it was the day that Jesus took all their sin away, which is good, hence the name. It does still have to do with his death however, because through his death Christians have all their sins that they had once had and will commit taken from them. This doesn't mean that Christians will be perfect.

Your question would be better answered in the 'Catholic' section as it is they who created the timeline of Holy Week, Good Friday death and Easter Sunday Resurrection.

There are other Christians who do not ascribe to this timeline.

Christians believe that, at the moment of his death, Jesus took all the sins of mankind upon himself - making that a very good day for all of us. A man dying is of course not something to celebrate, but the significance of Jesus' death for Christians very much is.

Surely all of Jesus' disciples and friends did not think that that particular Friday was good. And we ourselves do not look up on any day that a relative or friend dies as being good.

But the day that Jesus died (Friday) turns out to be the best Friday ever because Jesus the Christ is the Savior of the world and being so He had to die in order to take our sins upon Him self on that cruel cross in order to reconcile us to God in heaven.

Jesus came to this earth as a sinless person so that He could become our sinless substitute and die in our place. This was a necessity.

Yes Jesus died that day for us and just as importantly Jesus was raised from the dead three days later. Jesus is not dead but very much alive and sits at the right hand of the Father in heaven.

Jesus died for us but this salvation does not come upon people automatically. We too have a responsibility to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior in order to be given eternal life.

We are now in the age of grace. This new age began when Jesus died and will end when Jesus comes and takes Christians back to heaven with Him. Some believe this age is almost complete and can end before tomorrow comes.

The Apostle Paul tells us in II Corinthians 6:2b...."Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."

Originally it meant Holy Friday, but was translated to Good!

It's still good, in that the work of redemption was completed that day on the cross.
