You create a shortcut for easy accessibility to files/programs/websites etc.

To create a shortcut for a document, you right click the document and click "send to". A list will appear and you have to click "desktop (create shortcut)" to send it to the desktop (where the recycle bin is). You do the same for programs and folders. To favourite a website, you click "add to favourites" or something like that depending on the browser that you use.
