Why do you get shocked while touching the wire in air but the crows not?

Because the crow is not grounded. untill or unless the circuit is completed current won't pass on any conductor. U too can try in air, U'll not get shocked.
For Example:
Wear a rubber soled shoe or a sandel and touch the line wire. u'll not
get shock. Its 100% true

The birds are only touching one wire and not touching any thing that provides a return path for the current back to the generator. There is a procedure for people to work on energized high voltage lines from a helicopter without getting shocked because they are only touching one wire, so there is no return path available through the person.

Since the crow is in no way touching the ground the electricity has no where to go and thus can not shock the crow. If you touch the wire and are not touching anything that conducts electricity (like metal) and are not touching the ground you will not get shocked either. But if you stand on the ground and touch the wire you will get shocked.

You only get an electric shock if you are touching both the ground and the electric wire, (or close enough to both for the electricity to arc) Birds sat on electricity cables are not close enough to the ground for the electricity to arc, therefore they do not get shocked.

The "can" or metal case of an appliance is supposed to be grounded so if the "live" wire touches it then the breaker or fuse will trip open and remove the power to the wire to prevent the person touching the appliance from being shocked.
