Basically the PS3 YLOD is a hardware fault on the motherboard, sony claim that there is no single reason behind yellow light of death but as a rule this is due to the cheap solder that sony use. When your PlayStation has been on for prolonged periods of time it will reach high temperatures causing the solder on the motherboard to melt, as it cools (when you turn it off) it cracks causing a faulty connection. The term YLOD stands for yellow light of death, after this has happened to your PlayStation any attempt to turn it on will result in it beeping and flashing from green to yellow and finally flashing red.

Even the fixes that can be done for YLOD are temporarily and have too be repeated every few months. There's a link or two about it at some sites that I put under the related links. A Hair dryer is for when you get something wet like a mobile phone or controller by spilling on it. Placing something in bag of rice is another method for drying water out of an electrical device.

main problem comes from overheating, and when ylod appears then ps3 is dead. But there is a way for you to fix ps3 ylod problem, it is easy and simple just go to www.PS3LightsFix.net although I've never read whats on this link (it's most likely the same thing as what i did), i replaced the thermal paste and it started working again for about 2 days, i probably applied to much, don't lose hope

no YLOD has to do with main motherboard so it does not affect disc drive you might have the disk stuck in the consol which is normal.

To be honest .. Idk .. I had the YLOD on my ps3 because my sister charged her iPod over nice and then I send it to Sony to fix nd then I had an iPod touch and I want to play music then later It happen again with the YLOD ..

everything except the motherboard. I hope that you are aware that you can fix ylod your self by taking ps3 apart since you want to sell it anyway. And once you get to mother board you just resolder the cpu created soldering bridge or bridges and make it work again.

Should the playstation 3 slim gets the ylod?
clean your vents make sure they are always well maintained and make sure your ps3 is always cool. dont put it into surrounded places or close places like closets or tv stands because the surrounding will keep the heat around ps3 causing it to overheat which will cause ylod. People that dont do this get ylod. I have fixed my ylod resoldering the motherboard and i have been keeping my vents clean have it on stand near the window with window little cracked open for it to be cooled down and no problems for over 2 years now.
