Considering the YLOD (yellow light of death) indicates a debilitating malfunction with your system's hard drive and a solid red light means the system is off... I'd say it's infinitely worse. Best of luck to you!
Many parts are still usable after YLOD and there are sites that repair YLOD for $99 if you have not done something trying to repair it yourself
Depends on how well its built, i had YLOD and i resoldered my CPU my self with high quality solder and it works for 3 years now my friend sent his in they gave him new one and its freezing all the time no YLOD yet so depends on how well its build You can fix YLOD by your self look up Gilsky video on YLOD on youtube step by step how to fix it Trust points greatly appreciated.
The answer from what is YLOD has been added to this question in it's entirety. Basically the PS3 YLOD is a hardware fault on the motherboard, sony claim that there is no single reason behind yellow light of death but as a rule this is due to the cheap solder that sony use. When your PlayStation has been on for prolonged periods of time it will reach high temperatures causing the solder on the motherboard to melt, as it cools (when you turn it off) it cracks causing a faulty connection. The term YLOD stands for yellow light of death, after this has happened to your PlayStation any attempt to turn it on will result in it beeping and flashing from green to yellow and finally flashing red.
main problem comes from overheating, and when ylod appears then ps3 is dead. But there is a way for you to fix ps3 ylod problem, it is easy and simple just go to www.PS3LightsFix.net although I've never read whats on this link (it's most likely the same thing as what i did), i replaced the thermal paste and it started working again for about 2 days, i probably applied to much, don't lose hope
To fix the yellow light you can send it to sony to fix it for $150 and you will lose all your memory which isn't really recommended unless you are to lazy to take it apart. If you got to youtube and search up how to fix ylod on ps3 and there will be some videos that will show you how to take apart your ps3 step by step and what to do.
Fixing the YLOD on the PS3 will cost $150.00.
PS3 Slim Seems to be the same kinda, PS3 60g gets alot of YLOD's, ( Yellow Light Of Deaths).

keep your ps3 vents always clean and well maintained. Keep ps3 out of closed spaces so it wouldnt overheat.
To be honest .. Idk .. I had the YLOD on my ps3 because my sister charged her iPod over nice and then I send it to Sony to fix nd then I had an iPod touch and I want to play music then later It happen again with the YLOD ..
Ylod is commonly caused by a lose of connection between the GPU/CPU to your motherboard. Generally this is caused by heat and can be easy noticed if you open up your PS3. You will see that your thermal paste and pads are worn and are not working correctly. To get rid of Ylod you need to reapply the thermal paste on the GPU/CPU and ensure that the inside of your PS3 is dust free.

All PlayStation 3's are able to get Ylod. Some may even argue that PS3 slims are more likely to get Ylod due to the size. A smaller console means less room for heat sinks and fans, Meaning that the PS3 will generate and hold more heat which is a number one cause for Ylod The above must have been written by someone who does not understand that the PS3 slim uses less power and will run cooler than the Fat PS3 and does not have an overheating problem. The actual available and unused space in the PS3 slim is greater than in the Fat PS3, but overheating is not a problem for the PS3 slim. Overheating is worse in the first PS3 4 USB port models released with the highest power consumption at 200 watts and 380 watts max even the last PS3 Fat models used 130 watts and 280 watts max. The slim PS3 uses only 100 watts and 250 watts max
No you cant!.
Your ps3 overheated and Melted CPU. Yellow light blinks called YLOD aka Yellow Light of Death. CPU chip which is the brain of the PS3 melts Solder around it and creates a soldering bridge = when 2 different components become soldered as solid one. You can send it to Sony and they will fix it for you if its on warranty or without for about 140$ or you can do it your self its not that hard it just takes long time to take the ps3 apart to get to CPU to resolder the components. There is a guy that shows how to do it step by step on youtube. Guy name is Gilksy he does it all slow and step by step in 3 videos
everything except the motherboard. I hope that you are aware that you can fix ylod your self by taking ps3 apart since you want to sell it anyway. And once you get to mother board you just resolder the cpu created soldering bridge or bridges and make it work again.
