The tradition of setting off fireworks in the United States was started because in 1776 they were used as a morale booster for the troops involved in the Revolutionary War. This event was considered very patriotic. The many colors that fireworks create were not discovered until a few decades ago. Now all around the world fireworks are used as entertainment and during celebrations. In some parts of the world countries spend millions of dollars on creating complex and spectacular displays using fireworks. In Thailand, they are used during funeral ceremonies.

Fireworks in America are also used to celebrate our Independence Day (July 4th) and it brings happiness to Americans worldwide.

Fireworks were made because the Chinese wanted something more festive to celebrate with, and created fireworks. They used them to make beautiful light shows during the Chinese New Year.
