Why do you have ghosts?

There are lots of theories. Some "ghosts" seem to be just "residue" left behind from past events (war is the most common example of what seems to trigger "residue hauntings"). These would be the ghosts who go through a set motion of activities when observed, and don't seem to notice us.

Some of the more intelligent ghosts (the ones that actually interact with people) are said to be the spirits of people who died with unfinished business, under traumatic circumstances (murdered, for instance), or just can't accept or understand the fact that they are dead, and need to move on.

Other theories state that the beings we call "ghosts" are from other dimensions, or that we are witnessing events from a different time period. This is theorized to be the result of interference or distortions in the barriers between parallel universes, or in the "fabric" of time itself.
