I'm sure it depends on each state's laws, but most deaths are never seen by a coroner unless it involves a crime or other pressing reason why the exact cause of death needs to be known. In my state, a non-crime related death where the patient is under a doctor's care, either in the hospital or at home, nearly never involves a coroner (medical examiner in my state). The funeral home simply comes and picks up the person and takes them to the funeral home. Even that is not a real requirement, just what is most commonly done. You can keep the person at home for the 48 hour waiting period and then bury them or have them cremated (can't cremate them yourself).
Coroner will become sheriff when the sheriff dies or is arrested or relieved of his/her duty for what ever reason.
They go to India when someone dies because when they go to the river Ganges to get burnt they get thrown into the river. That way they do not have to be reincarnated or reborn again.

Coroner.
IF a person dies WHILE Committing a FELONY, the policy will not pay out when he dies. I'm not sure if DUI counts in this answer...I think it may depend... if they hit someone and it was manslaughter it would not pay. IF they were driving while intoxicated and someone hit them ...I'm not sure...it may depend on the coroner report. However I can say that if someone was robbing a bank, or opened a crackhouse and was shot by police while in the act of trying to apprehend the person...the claim would not be paid.
Medical examiners or coroners are paid a lucrative salary. Another benefit of becoming a coroner is helping to find out why someone died.
Ether the attending doctor or the coroner.
