We don't necessarily need it. It's just something that happens, because of the motions

of the earth and the moon. We were not consulted, or asked for our opinion, or given an

opportunity to modify the plan, during the process of Creation. We took what we were

given, and it has been our responsibility ever since to do our best with what we have.

What are the relative position of the sun the moon and earth during a full moon?

When the moon is full, the full of the face of the moon that is facing earth is lit by the sun. The only way this can happen is if the earth is between the sun and the moon. We need the sun "behind us" to allow the sun to light up all of the moon's face so it can appear full.

If the last full moon occurred on a Friday and full moons happen every 30 days, the next full moon will be 30 days later. Since 30 days is equivalent to 4 weeks and 2 days, the next full moon will fall on a Sunday. Therefore, to find the next full moon on a Friday, you would need to wait for the next full moon cycle, which would be 30 days later, bringing it back to a Friday after a total of 59 days.
