I am a Gymnast, and often wondered that myself! However, during my first competition, I really struggled making eveything look graceful. If you want to move on to things like flips, flics etc. you will need tummy and leg muscles to really make them look elegant and actually manage to do them! For example, if you wanted to to a slow headstand into straddle without falling down, you really need to use muscles ! hope i helped!
