Laptops are convenient for a number of reasons. They are obviously portable, which is perfect for a student or a person who is travelling a lot. It is also just as fast and efficient as a desktop computer, which is a major plus.
I would suggest you buy a docking station for your laptop. This will provide all of the necessary I/O ports for the PC to PC KVM switches.
Visit the KVM website (see the link).

There is no way. You would have a buy a PC.
You need to buy a wireless router. Whether it be an internal or external, you need that to pick up the signal to your base or home network. Then if you don't already have WiFi built into your laptop, you also need that too. You can buy that also to plug into a USB port on the laptop.
you need a normal PC in connection cable, but if you have a newer model you will need a extra connecter that connects the PC in connection cable to your laptop. You can buy everything you need at jb hi-fi stores.

A laptop is a PC. You don't need a desktop PC to configure a router, you can use a laptop to do so, by connecting to the router via a network adaptater - either via wifi or ethernet. Both ways of connecting are included on laptops nowadays.
