Because the times differs from the constellations.
Because Earth moves, and it appears that the constellation moves. It just seems that we see it at a certain time of year.
The relative position (direction, actually) of a constellation and the Sun changes, due to Earth's orbit around the Sun. Thus, at one moment the Sun might be in a certain constellation; half a year later, the Sun will be in a constellation opposite in the sky.
If you're in the northern hemisphere you can see it throughout the year - but at different times during the night.

This is due to the rotation of the Earth and moon. Sometimes, you may have been able to see constellations, but the moon blocked them. Other times, the spinning of the Earth may let you see a constellation at one moment, then not the next. (This is not true. I meant to say that you can see it one day, but not the next day.) For example, a constellation could be seen for a week straight, then suddenly not be seen the next day.

What we see as constellations is actually a 2-dimensional projection of the different stars in the galaxy. In ancient times, people saw patterns in the sky and so we got constellations. The constellation of Hercules was listed by Ptolemy but it is unknown who first named the constellation.
Canis Major is a winter constellation in the US because its location in the sky puts it in an area visible during the winter months. Due to Earth's orbit around the Sun, Canis Major rises and sets at different times of the year. This means that in the US, the constellation is best visible during the winter months.
You see different constellation because the constellations stay in place, but Earth moves so every season you are able to see different constellations.
Earth orbiting the sun
You can see your zodiac constellation at any time of year. When the Earth moves, the stars will align in such a way as to reflect the zodiac paradigm. Thus, your sign is born. It also depends on whenever your birthdate is. Mine is in April, so I sometimes see Taurus at that time.Comment: That seems unlikely because there are times of the year when you can't see your zodiac constellation. That's simply because the Sun is "in" theconstellation around your birthday. That means the Sun appears where the constellation is in the sky and the stars in it aren't visible, because it's daytime.
