You don't. You see it when sunlight traveling away from you enters a raindrop, bounces off
the far inside of it, and comes back out traveling toward you.

The reason is that different wavelengths of light bend through very slightly different angles
when they enter or leave the raindrop.

So, if light with a mixture of different wavelengths goes in, then the different wavelengths
will come out in slightly different directions, and you'll see them spread out.

WHY DO rainbows have colours for kids?

Rainbows have colors because sunlight is made up of different colors of light. When sunlight passes through raindrops, it gets refracted and reflects inside the raindrop, separating the light into its different colors. This creates the spectrum of colors that we see in a rainbow.

Why don't you get a rainbow when it snows?

rainbows are formed when it rains. when the ray of sunlight passes on a raindrop (which is in form of water), the ray of light breaks and the broken ray of light turns into different colors which are the rainbow colors. this process is called refraction.

How does sunlight appear through a spectroscope?

The colors being reflected are all the colors-- the rainbow

Sunlight tot shine through rain drops and break up into its many colors?

When sunlight shines through raindrops, a rainbow may be the result.

Why a rainbow is formed?

the sunlight passes through the water drops in the clouds it split into into a band of colors (act like a prism). so the rainbow is formed.the colors are VIBGYOR.

How are the best rainbows formed?

I believe you asking if you are right with your facts. Rainbows happen when sunlight and rain combine in a very specific way. The beams of sunlight separate into the colors we see in the rainbow as they enter a raindrop. Sunlight is actually made up of different colors that we don't usually see. When a beam of sunlight comes down to Earth, the light is white. Hope this does help.

How can white light be split to form a rainbow?

Artificially, a rainbow can be produced by passing white light (sunlight) through a prism. The light passing through the prism constitutes the seven colors of the rainbow.

When is rainbow formed?

When sunlight passes through raindrops, the drops scatter the light which then appears to the onlooker to form a band of colors in the sky - or as we call it, a rainbow.

How does a rainbow get its coler?

Rainbows get their color from sunlight passing through raindrops as they fall. The light is split into the spectrum of visible colors and shows up as a rainbow.

Where do rainbow came from?

Sunlight contains many different colors. Actually, it contains an infinite number of colors, all colors which exist. This is the sunlight's visible spectrum, and it ranges from red to violet. But all of these colors together, as in normal sunlight, appear white. Raindrops separate all the different colors so that one can observe them individually. Therefore a rainbow has all these colors. The reason for the color separation is that light breaks when it penetrates the droplet of water. To break light means that the light doesn't go straight through the surface of the raindrop; it gets bent. In physics this effect is called light refraction. Each color gets bent to different degrees. In rainbows, the white sunlight gets separated into the individual colors of the spectrum, as shown in the figure below. Then, at the back of the raindrop it gets reflected. While exiting, the light gets broken again. You can see from the diagram that the sun needs to be behind you whereas the rain needs to be in front of you in order to observe the individual colors. This separation of light happens in all the raindrops of the raincloud, which are at a specific angle between you and the direction of sunlight. All of these different colors form the rainbow. You can also make a tiny rainbow yourself by spraying water outside on a sunny day with the sun in your back. It looks great. Sometimes when it rains, you can see a rainbow. A rainbow appears only when it is raining and sunny at the same time.

Why cant we see ALL the colors of the rainbow all the time?

Sunlight (white light) is split into the rainbow colours by passing through drops of rain in the sky.

What process makes a rainbow after a rain storm?

the water droplets after the rain remains in the atmosphere. When the sunlight passes through this droplets the white light of the sun splits in to 7 colors this colors forms the rainbow
