Many people suffer from deception or ignorance concerning biblical texts. They either read The Bible and do not understand what they have read or they speak from a position of ignorance, having never actually read the bible at all. The majority of church systems don't teach their parishioners from the biblical text. They instead assume the parishioners are not wise enough to understand biblical text and opt for teaching from sermons or books devised by the church.
The level of ignorance within the Christian community coupled with the belief in other doctrines such as the doctrine of philosophy which was devised in Athens or the doctrine of Mohammed or the doctrines based upon dharma, cause men to steer away from the truth and adopt false beliefs. One of the signs of the end of this earth age (eon) is ignorance of our Fathers word (Amos chapter 8:11).
Therefore statements such as the one you indicated, surface from diverse places, and out of ignorance, indicating our Father or Christ are not or were not real. The largest offender to those types of comments stem from those who believe in the doctrine of philosophy and the use of its dialectic. The Apostle Paul warned about the doctrine of philosophy in Colossians chapter 2, which was a response to his visit to Athens, defined in acts chapter 17. The majority of people in this earth age (2nd of 3) have the freewill to choose on their own if they will believe in our Father and his doctrine or a doctrine of men. These decisions follow our souls to judgment (Revelation 20). Therefore the question is not what the skeptic thinks but what do you think concerning biblical text? The continuation of each soul into the eternity (3rd earth age - 2nd Peter chapter 3), is riding upon that decision.
