It has been abolished through an act of parliament, Canada has joined many other countries around the world to stop this barbaric custom. this being said, our penalties for major crimes leave a lot to be desired, we have some of the lamest punishments for serious crimes that are a laughable and now the people are crying for the laws to be reformed and handing out sentences appropriate for the crimes committed.
Capital crimes are those punishable by death. In many countries and states there are no capital crimes. The most common capital crimes are murder, rape and treason.
