1. The union General Patterson was supposed to occupy Confederate general Johnson in the Shenandoah Valley to prevent he joining Beauregard. But a few confederate outposts made lots of noise to occupy Patterson, while Johnson's men marched to Manassas. Their arrival, together with the brave stand of the Virginians under Thomas Jackson turned the tide battle.
They lost it because the were under-trained and overconfident.
It was principally a lost opportunity.
Halleck's plan to unite his two armies, so that they could overwhelm Lee and capture Richmond, was quite viable.
But they were up against the Lee-Jackson team at its best, and their quick bold thrusts ran rings round the Union troops.
The main cause of the Union defeat at the First Battle of Bull Run was the failure of Union General Patterson to check any advance of Confederate General Joseph Johnston to meet with the forces of PT Beauregard at the Manassas rail junction. Patterson was blamed, however, there was clearly some type of miscommunication between generals Scott, Patterson and McDowell.
The bulls lost the first battle of bull run.
i am not sure about this, but try to think about the armies who fought, were they like professional? were they experienced?
one reason was overconfidence.
One Confederate unit was wearing blue uniforms, and the Union artillery thought they were friendly forces until too late.
They were hoping to end the war as quickly as it started
Orders from a General of nearly 80 failing to reach a General of nearly 70.
They underestimated the fervor of the CSA forces.
cuz they suk
I can think of no reason why Lincoln would have hoped for that. A Union victory would probably have shortened the war and reduced casualties on both sides, and it would have made Lincoln's presidency more popular.
The question of "won" and "lost" is often difficult. The union most definitely lost both of the battles at Bull Run (Manassas). The Union was badly defeated in a series of battles around Charleston. The Battle of Ball's Bluff (Leesburg, VA) was a complete defeat for the Union. Stonewall Jackson defeated Union forces in a series of campaigns in the Shenendoah Valley in 1862. The Battle of Murfreesboro in Tennessee was a Confederate victory which temporarily ceased Union momentum. The Union suffered horrible losses in many other campaigns but did not lose territory; the losses in men and equipment were made up and advances continued.
The North won the Battle of Antieatm, Shiloh, Chattonoga, Gettysgurg, Vicksburg, March to the sea in Gorgia, and the Battle of the Appomattox Court House. These are the wars the North won. By Bikram S Marwah
No, he Ulysses S. Grant didn't lose any wars but he did lose a battle; the Battle of Shiloh. COMMENT Grant won the battle of Shiloh, not only from the tactical point of view, as the Confederates failed on their attempt to destroy or scatter his army, but especially from the strategical one because, after the battle they withdrew southward, opening the way to the occupation of Corinth and the control of a further long stretch of the Mississippi River by the Union.
because they did
The Confederacy won the First Battle of Bull Run.
The Union lost at Bull Run twice. The first time was on July 21, 1861. The second time was more than a year later, on August 30, 1862 (the third day of a three-day battle).
The Union Army named their battles after Geographical location nearby. This is why it was named "The Battle of Bull Run." The Confederate Army named their battles after towns or structures nearby, therefore, Union-1st Bull Run Confederate-1st Manassas Union-2nd Bull Run Confederate-2nd Manassas Union-Pittsburg Landing Confederate-Shiloh Union-Antietam Confederate-Sharpsburg Union- Olustee Confederate-Ocean Pond

Confederate General defeated Pope's Army of Virginia in the Second Battle of Bull Run that ran from August 29 to September 1, 1862. This was a stunning victory for Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, and a humiliating loss for the Union.
The Confederates (The South) won both the battles of Bull Run (or Manassas, as the South likes to call them.)The first was won by Joseph E. Johnston and P.G.T. Beauregard, over the Union commander Irvin McDowell. The second was won by Robert E. Lee and T.J. ("Stonewall") Jackson, over the Union commander John Pope. The Confederates won the first battle of Bull Run at Manassas in the Civil War.The union tried there hardest but were unable to win.The main point in this is that: even thought the south won, the Union should still be "America".If it wasn't for Abraham Lincoln, we'd lose this battle, let alone the Civil War, would not have started. The main reason for this war was to keep the Union together not to abolish slavery. Lincoln wanted to stop the spread of slavery but not to abolish it where it already was.confederacy

Few observers believed that any Confederate force had the ability to cause the Union forces to lose and retreat back to Alexandria, Virginia. Some advisors had cautioned President Lincoln about the assault into Virginia, however, Lincoln was pressured to send the Union army to Manassas and soon after capture Richmond. This was the plan to quickly end the rebellion. The expert use by the Confederates of the tactic of interior lines augmented by railway troop transport was unexpected and proved to be the key to victory for the South.
yup only if someone is in there but i don't think you have to pay if you lose
