No, he Ulysses S. Grant didn't lose any wars but he did lose a battle; the Battle of Shiloh.
COMMENT
Grant won the battle of Shiloh, not only from the tactical point of view, as the Confederates failed on their attempt to destroy or scatter his army, but especially from the strategical one because, after the battle they withdrew southward, opening the way to the occupation of Corinth and the control of a further long stretch of the Mississippi River by the Union.
That is not within the President's power.

General Ulysses S. Grant.
He died of throat cancer, probably brought on by stress when he was swindled in a bank fraud by people hiding behind his status.
Only one president has died from cancer and that is Hiram Ulysses Simpson Grant. He had cancer in the throat. Other presidents have had cancer but have not died.
There were no wars in the United States while Ulysses Simpson Grant was president.

The S was a mistake. His parents named him Hiram Ulysses Grant but he went by Ulysses or Lyss. At the age of 17, Grant entered the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, after securing a nomination through his U.S. Congressman, Thomas L. Hamer. Hamer erroneously nominated him as "Ulysses S. Grant of Ohio," knowing Grant's mother's maiden name was Simpson . Grant wrote his name in the entrance register as "Ulysses Hiram Grant" (concerned that he would otherwise become known by his initials, H.U.G.), but the school administration refused to accept any name other than the nominated form Grant made other efforts to have the error corrected by eventually gave up and accepted Ulysses S. Grant as his official name in the army. .
General Ulysses S. Grant.
Ulysses Grant was noted for his ability to train horses. His father was a tanner and Grant worked in his father's store, selling leather goods, but I don't think he did any tanning - maybe he helped out as a boy.
