I do not think that anyone thinks the spoils system is a good idea, surely not Jackson.

However he did think that 4 years was about the right time for a civil servant to keep his

job and public servants should be rotated, lest they become corrupt. Jackson became

president at a time when the previous party had been in power for a long time and so he

thought was time to "clean house'. He removed a lot of the old Republicans who thought

they were fixtures and their protests led to the charge that Jackson was in favor of the

spoils system.

(Nowadays, not so many governments jobs are filled by appointment- we have a civil

service systems that fill many lower jobs by merit on examinations, independent of the

president.)

The spoils system, also known as patronage, was considered an acceptable practice in the United States because it allowed elected officials to reward their supporters with government positions. This was seen as a way to maintain loyalty and unity within political parties. Additionally, supporters argued that it allowed for ordinary citizens to have a chance at government positions rather than a permanent bureaucratic class.

Why was the spoils system was an acceptable practice?

the spoil system was the practice of giving government jobs to political backers. it gave voters the job of the cabinet. during the Jacksonian era they were called the kitchen cabinet because they met in the kitchen sometimes(no joke i took this out of a textbook). i do not think it was acceptable because they might have given jobs to the non educated or gave the wrong job to the wrong person.

Was the ''spoil system'' fair or corrupt?

The spoils system was considered corrupt because it allowed elected officials to appoint their supporters to government positions as a reward for their loyalty, regardless of qualifications or merit.
