Pressure describes a load acting over an external surface. Stress describes the loading within the material. This is often caused by the material deforming so that one part presses against another.

So if the loading has an external source acting over an external area it is pressure, if the loading is internal and distributed over a cross section of the material it is stress.

Which occurs at a lower stress value ductile deformation or elastic deformation?

Ductile deformation is when rock is given enough stress to break. If the stress is less, it will bend but not break.

What is the difference between yield stress and proof stress?

yield stress is the maximum resistance to deformation per unit area and proof stress is the allowable resistance to deformation per unit area.

What is flow stress?

flow stress is yield stress of material during plastic deformation

What is a deformation and what causes it?

Deformation is a change in the shape and volume of a rock, deformation is produced when a rock experiences a stress that is greater than the strength of the rock.

What is the change in shape of rock due to stress?

Shape of rock also changes because of stress. It causes the rock to change its shape. When a lot of pressure applies it causes the rock to change its shape.

Is the change in shape of rock due to stress?

It is deformation

what is a torsional stress?

The torsional stress refers to the stress that arises from the deformation set up by a twisting moment or torque.

What type of deformation leads to earthquakes?

iT CHANGES THE SHAPE OF THE ROCK BUT DOES NOT CAUSE EARTHQUAKES

When the deformation is prevented the stress included in the body is called?

strain

Is deformation the change in shape of a rock due to stress?

Yes, it is.

What is the definition of deformation boundaries?

The changing of form or shape, as by stress

How is deformation related to metamorphic rock structures?

deformation is related to metamorphic rock structures because deformation can create metamorphic rocks through the stress it creates, and also certain structures in the foliations of metamorphic rocks can indicate stress and stress direction from deformation. Some structures caused by stress are folds and faults, and the resulting indicators in metamorphic rocks include things such as sigma structures, Z structures, mica fish, boudinage structures and many others.
