Japan is a very clean-friendly place. And so, you don't want to get the dirt and germs from your house in your bathroom, or vise-versa. The reason they wear slippers inside of the house is so that it doesn't get dirty, and the reason they wear a different kind of slippers inside of the bathroom is for the same reason. To keep everything clean.
So that the bacteria doesn't go into the kitchen from the outdoors and cross contaminate the food theat would give you food poision.

I would that generally the British do wear slippers. It is often cold here for much of the year and the majority of people seem to take their shoes off at the door. Its fine going barefoot or in socks when it is warm, but if it cold then to go without slippers in the house can be very uncomfortable. We are a shoes off house and We wear slippers. When we visit friends and family we take our slippers to change into. Many others seem to do this as well.
Men usually wear casual attire such as pajamas, sweatpants, t-shirt, or a robe when going outside to get the morning newspaper. Some may also wear slippers or sandals for comfort.
Because they are soft they are fuzzy. They look sexy and cute on a woman. If you wear them then they feel good to wear. Just go with it. If you do more with them then I won't judge ;)
you can. most prefer to wear tightsYeah. A lot wear the tights 'cause they allow a little more movement, but you can wear socks. You can even wear go with no under-foot-garments on your feet at all--but I wouldn't recommend it.
The easy way is to follow the original books instead of the movie and wear silver slippers instead. Much easier to find. If you really want ruby slippers and cant find anything appropriate, get some cheap dark-red heels, some red sequins, and a hot glue gun and go to town. As long as they are red and sparkley they should be good enough.

No, families in the US would not put out slippers for guests to wear. That would be seen as rather tacky and impolite. When people in the US travel and intend to stay over, they either bring their own slippers, just go in socks inside, or, like me, prefer going barefoot (even in someone else's house if the floors are relatively clean). Of course, those preferences might be seen as tacky and impolite in other countries.
You will go to the bathroom when you are ready to. I hope you make it peaceful.
