because they suck i n all the fish poop and that's how it gets cloged up so quick
i had to clean mine out every day so i just got a bigger one and it worked and now i don't have to clean mine out for months at a time!

∙ 12y agoYour aquarium water can get dirty because of not cleaning it often enough. Your water can also cloud if the gravel is not rinsed out good once every month or so or if the insides of the tank have to much algae growth. If your water starts to look cloudy, first check your filter to make sure it isn't clogged up. If it is, you can rinse it out to get the debris off and continue flow of water and then take out your rocks and rinse them or use a gravel vacuum to clean the gravel or sand. If you regularly rinse your filter out (about once per week) it can last you years. Stores just want to make more money by making you think you need to replace a filter every month. If you regularly cleanse your rocks either by taking them out and rinsing them off or using a gravel vacuum when you do your 25-30 percent water change every week, your tank should look fine.
