He is a very popular individual. The novel never gives any sort of information to whom or what he is talking about. It can only be assumed that Gatsby is speaking about illegal dealings that make him money. There is also never an explanation as to where all of his money really came from. Therefore it can only be assumed that he is making some sort of illegal business deal. I think that is why Gatsby Gets so many phone calls.

Gatsby receives numerous phone calls throughout the novel because he is a mysterious and wealthy individual who throws extravagant parties. People are drawn to his glamorous lifestyle and want to be associated with him or gain access to his parties. Additionally, Gatsby is also trying to reconnect with Daisy, so he may be expecting a call from her.

Nick is astonished, and as a result, he "picked his butt"(pg 162), and ran away back to theMidwest. There, he finds the woman he'sengagedto, and punches her in the nose. Nick states, "the clown was secretly a flamingo the whole time"(167). Nick is clearly distraught about the death of Gatsby. This is also shown when he states,"I am no real. I swear, I am no real"(168). Hisfiance gets worried, and flees. Nick, in great pain, farts in his fathers mouth. His father then gave him a spanking, and sent him to his room. There Nick inquires,"I would rather be dead than being grounded right now`(170). This relates to the American Dream concept of the story. Nick stating he would rather be dead is telling the reader that he has given up on his dream. Gatsby is dead, and his dream is over. If Nick was dead, his dream would also be over, rendering theAmerican Dream useless. Nick`s father later states, `Hey old sport, you can come out now`(171). Nick, with eye`s as open as the sea, hugged his father and said,`I love You`(171). They got married and lived happily ever after.

'Old Sport' is what Gatsby calls Nick. As with his entire lift, this is a facade designed to create an illusion from which Gatsby can present himself to the world. This relates to the story Gatsby tells Nick in chapter 4 about his time in Europe, 'hunting big game'. This is evidently a lie, but is designed to create an aura of mystery around him.
