As you Will recall God in creation of the world made everything good, even man. But Satan came to man and caused Adam and Eve to sin. From then on all men were born sinners and did not repent and soon God destroyed the earth with a flood, saving only Noah and his family as they were the only ones on earth that believed in God.
Since that time man has continued to sin and not repent with the exception of a godly line that came through one of Noah's sons.
2000 years ago Jesus came into the world and died for man's sin, but man has the responsibility to accept Jesus, repent of their sins and follow after and obey Him. Some have done this and are pleasing to God. The remainder has shunned God and continually sin. Sin is approaching the point that God again wants to destroy the world.
But this time many people obey God and follow His Son, Jesus Christ. They will be taken out of this world and go to heaven while all the unbelievers will face judgment and go to hell.
This is why God wants us to obey Him. He loves us and wants the best for us, but God can not condone sin and so the unbelievers are not pleasing to God and He will send them to hell.
