vampires don't live for just 30 years you know (i should know) they live for much much much much more longer. Vampires are imortal (they cant die unless of an broken heart or being slein in battle)

Jasper was a superb solider in an army. When diaster struck he was evacuating everyone. While he was riding down a path he came upon 3 ladies in black hooded robes. They were vampires and told Jasper. He was intrigued so greatly that he joined them and soon after they changed him. JAsper and the 3 ladies made an army of newborn vampires. Some time after, Jasper left. He walked into a diner and then look at a table to see a woman turn and say "what took you so long". It was Alice. Alice didn't know much of her human life. Jasper and Alice are the only Cullens who weren't changed by Carlisle or Edward. (an exception to Renesme, who is half vampire half human, daughter of Bella and edward.)

In the Twilight series, Jasper has only been what the Cullens consider "A civilized vampire" for a short amount of time. Before Jasper was "Civilized" he was a put up to the job of killing vampires. Therefore he was very violent. Although he was still kind and had feelings and hopes. He decided to leave the life of killing vampires because he did not enjoy it. Sometime after this he met Alice and they fell in love and got married. He then became a "Civilized vampire" only hunting animals and humans. Jasper is still learning to control his thirst for human blood. He is quite shy around humans because he is trying very hard to not bite them! He can not really get near humans. He does eventually get used to Bella because he is around her so much and because he considers her part of the family. But, when around other humans he is quite shy so as not to bite them. Yes, it was a long explanation but you need to know it all to understand. Plus, Jasper is a great character! Hope this helped! :D
