The estates general had 3 estates, commoners, clergy, and nobility. Parliament had 2, commoners and nobility. More important, the estates general had given the king the ability to levy taxes. Parliament never gave the king that authority. As a result the British Parliament met constantly because the king always needed money. The estates general stopped meeting after it gave the king the power to levy taxes. When things became a total mess and the laws needed to be changed, then King Louis xvi had to call a meeting of the Estates General. At that point things got out of hand and the French Revolution started.

Parliament's emergence became a check upon the power of the King of England. As Parliament's stature grew more and more powerful, the King's powers diminished. The King was no longer completely above the law as he had been before there was a Parliament. Although the common person did not have rights of voting for members of Parliament at first, the emergence of Parliament showed that the people the King governed had a say in how he governed. This also introduced the concept that governmental powers should be separated; that no one person or group should have total control over all the powers that a government has.

The English Civil War was between King Charles I, and the British Parliament. It started in 1640. King Charles wanted to change England from Protestant to Roman Catholic. At the time continental Europe was involved in the 30 years war between Protestants and Roman Catholics. Parliament was Protestant and wanted to keep England out of the war. So, the king raised an army and Parliament raised an army. The situation was quite similar to that of the American Civil War with King Charles' situation similar to that of the South and Parliament to that of the North except that they shared the same territory. The nobility sided with the King so Charles had better officers. The common people took up the cause of Parliament so Parliament had more solders. Gradually, the king's officers were killed off. None of equal calibre replaced them. As his solders died, none replaced them. Parliament's officers became more efficient and learned how to win battles. Replacements joined the armies of Parliament. So, the king's armies lost and Parliament won. Oliver Cromwell, Parliament's command in chief, became the ruler of England. King Charles I, lost his head.
Then we would still be with our "Mother Country"
Thomas Jefferson was more determined than ever to prove to the British that America could exist as a free nation after the British ignored his first draft of the Declaration of Independence. After Thomas Jefferson insisted that the British King respond to his ideas, he was not in agreement with the King's ideas.
Parliament and an executive branch and president aren't really comparable. Parliament is very comparable to the US Congress. One has a house of Lords, the other has a Senate. One has a house of Commons, the other has a house of Representatives. The Parliament and the Congress are fairly similar. A President is more comparable to a king or queen, although the US President has been given a lot more individual power by the US citizens than a current king or queen has.
No question: it was King George III.
The term 'Model Parliament' is given to the English parliament called by Edward I in 1295. It was the first royal parliament and consisted of an unelected House of Lords and a House of Commons representing the counties and towns.
