Jesus didn't just tell stories. Each story had a message. A purpose. If he just taught people the ones who didn't care would understand his message and mock him. He taught in stories that had the true meaning hidden. These are called parables. To those interested and to his followers to true meaning was revealed through the holly spirit.

People learn best through metaphors and stories. Jesus knew this, so he used parables (stories) to illustrate his points. Something which tends to be lost through the ages is that most of the parables Jesus told were parodies of those taught by the Pharisees. His audience would have thought they knew the end, then would have been surprised by the twist in the tale.
The Afro-Asian culture has many stories, but all of them are varied and tell varying stories of these people.
