wrong sasse does die in the episode when he eaves konoha to get power from orochimaru they tell him that he must die once before he gets to orochimaru then they use the barrier ninjutsu to negate the side effect of the pills he takes therefore he doesn't actually die but i assume it has to do with the curse mark and its mysteries.
