The feast of St. Nicholas - December 6.
you put you shoes out on the 5th of December
bc children used to put their shoes out and St. Nick would out money and gifts inside their shoes.
Hang the stockings or put out the shoes on the evening of December 5th so when the children awake on the morning of the 6th, they find their stockings/shoes filled with candy and small toys.
The kids put their shoes out in front of their doors and St. Nick (Santa Claus) puts little gifts inside. That's the only one I know of.
December 6th, in hollandthey call it St. Nicholas Day, and it is a separate day from Christmas all together

December 6, the Feast of St. Nicholas of Myra, is primarily celebrated in some European countries. Children place their shoes outside on the doorstep at night in hopes that they will be filled by St. Nick with candy, fruit and small gifts. The New World morphed St. Nicholas into Santa Claus and moved him to Christmas. This has since spread to much of the world, unfortunately.
