On my 2002 1.6 Scenic it is at the aft end of the engine at the top of the bellhousing held in by 2 10mm bolts, they are around £23 for a replacement & are usually the cause of most intermittent starting problems on the scenic.
The starter but watch the bolts break real easy. You can check the relay first. But the starters have a bad rep. It is in the solinoid or the bendix I can't tell but 2 years seem like the limit. But Please check all else first mabey I just had rough luck with starters. check all connections, grounds relay wires. Good luck

If you have a ignition key with the computer chip system, and is failiing you can get a intermittent no start. Computer shuts of the fuel pump for three minutes or so. Replacement or key or ignition key cylinder, try the key first, Dealer or a big busy locksmith shop can do this ( on some models). You can "nurse" this olong, by inserting key slowly andcarefully and waiting a second or two before starting, in some cases.
