The HVAC controls operate off of vacuum supplied from the engine. If the vacuum supply is cut off the system defaults to the defrost mode. My guess is the vacuum supply hose is disconnected/broken/cracked or pinched, start by checking under the hood and inspecting the vacuum lines.

The wire you need to disconnect is behind the glove box on a 1994 Chev PU 350. It was a brown and white, and it was a small loop off the big group of wires. That is were mine was on my 1994 Chev PU. You must take out your glove box.

It must have 9 to 13 LBS. of fuel pressure to run. It can't be any higher are lower are you will have starting and running problems.
