because it also has 2 different size ramps in its vareator. both sets work togtehr at first to the gear quickly, then the ramp on the heavy weights runs out and the lighter weights change the gears more gradualy.
the design keeps rpm low and impoves gass milage but greatly decresses acceloration
It does not have a governor it has roller weights where the belt is you have to replace them with lighter ones. It increased my top speed from 35 to 40mph

Well unfortunately there is not much you can do to make the elite 80 go faster. you may be able to buy heavier roller weights for the transmission or modify the muffler, but you will not get much more speed out of it. There is no replacement for displacement. If you really want more speed, then get a bigger scooter, like an elite 250.
I looked up a newer Honda that is comparable and they are around 500 to 600 pounds. Hope this helps. You can go to Honda website and see the weights for newer ones.
