Most likely their is a short or an open in the wiring harness to the ECM
Best thing to do (and its free) take it to an auto parts store. Use their code scanner to erase all codes in the computer. Takes no more than 5 minutes.
find out what it is.... (preferably with a scanner) fix it... , clear codes with scanner
The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. It is a diagnostic connector and it is located on the driver (LEFT) side near the battery
The scanner plug in is under the dash on the drivers side and is the OBD1 system
With a scan tool that gives you a trouble code with a number. ie P0123
under the left fron side of the dashbord, This is wher to hook up a scanner and rea/errord trouble codes.
The computer has set a code that will have to do with the electronic throttle system. Have it checked for codes with a scanner.
you can temporarily clear the light by disconnecting the negative battery for a minute, or using a code scanner, but if you havent fixed the cause it will come back on.
The dealer might be able to turn it off with their scanner. Other than that there is no way.
