Because if it did, it wouldn't be anti-clockwise anymore.
Positive and negative are reversed. It will run either direction depending on which way it is wired.

All horse racing in Melbourne Australia is run anticlockwise in New South Wales and Queensland races are run clockwise.
athlete's run in anticlockwise direction - this is concerned with the position of our heart heart being located at the left side it safe that we take the curves in anticlockwise direction as chances are more for it to be moved to right side if not.... thank u.....

I think that this might be related to the direction of the earth's revolution on it's own axis and rotation round the sun, as these all are in clockwise direction the clock should run in clockwise only.
Ceiling fans usually can rotate in either direction. There is usually a switch on the unit. This allows downflow during the warm season and upflow during the winter. The direction of rotation of a table fan is determined by the shape of the blades. A motor can be made to run in either direction but to force air to the front of the table fan, it must rotate in the direction that the blades will force the air properly.
This depends on the track; most run anticlockwise (known as 'lefthanded' tracks) but some tracks are run clockwise (called 'righthanded' tracks).
On some if you put the battery in backwards the clock will run backwards.
