Because a spinning bullet travels in a straighter line, for further, than a bullet which is not spinning. So, in a word, "accuracy" is why a gun puts a spin on a bullet.

Not all of the guns put spin on the bullet though. Those that do have rifled barrels(grooved on inside). There are also smooth bore guns that do not cause the projectile to spin.

Why does a bullet spin?

The answer has two parts - 1. Why do you want it to spin: It allows the bullet to be more accurate and travel further. The bullet spins for the same reason that football players spin a football when they throw it. 2. Why does it spin (How do you make it spin): Inside the barrel are grooves (rifling) that catch part of the lead of the bullet and spin it like bolt spins when you put it into a nut.

What is the bullet?

A bullet itself is a hard one to explain. it's lead based and it's usually put into a clip of a gun or barrel. The bullet is capped off at the back with a small amount of gun powder which is then hit by a firing pin or pins to produce a loud explosion wich is normally aimed at the target .Answer:The bullet is part of a kinetic energy transfer system. It is usually fired from a pistol or rifle at high velocity. The bullet itself is usually made of dense material (lead, bismuth, iron, tungsten, depleted uranium) with or without a protective covering of copper or other metal.A bullet is usually packaged with a propellant (gun powder, black powder, nitrocellulose, gun cotton) together with a casing to allow transportation, and a primer which ignites the propellant. The entire unit is called a shell.

Will anything happen if you fire a bullet that has already been fired?

There are bullets (that is the projectile that gets shot out of the barrel) and cartridges (cartridge case, powder, primer, bullet) It may be possible to recover a fired bullet, load it into a cartridge case with a new primer and powder, and shoot it again- BUT bullets are generally rather soft, and likely to get bent up on impact. Once a CARTRIDGE has fired, it needs to have the old primer removed, new one installed, fresh charge of gunpowder put in place, and THEN load a bullet into the cartridge case.
