Oranges float because with their peel on, their density is less than 1. The density of water is 1, and anything with a density less than 1 will float. However, if the peel is removed, the density will be more than 1, and the orange will sink. The formula for finding density is: Mass ÷ Volume=Density

considering that density is mass/volume, lets think about his for a second. The density of water is 1, so the orange's density has to be lower. In an unpeeled orange, there is an outside layer giving it more mass and more volume. When it is peeled, you are decreasing the mass and the volume to a state that it floats!

I think that if i put a orange in water it will not float because it will be heavy and sink toward the bottom,or i can see if a orange without skin maybe float cause it is not going to be heavy

because lighter an object is it floats (sits on top of water) and a heavy object sinks(more weight get put on it)

Both. They would both have a lighter density than water (for this example)

, so they would float. it sinks if you peel it!

Why do peeled oranges sink but unpeeled oranges don't sink?

I'm not sure I've ever tried this experiment, but taking the given data at face value: I'd assume it's because the density of the peel is very low, enough to offset the slightly-greater-than-water average density of the inside of the orange.

Why does an unpealed orange float?

an unpeeled orange can float because it has less density.

Can oranges float in water?

Yes.

What fruits float out of an apple an orange and a lemon?

An apple will float - that's why you can play bobbing for apples! Oranges will float if they still have their peel on, but if they don't then they sink. I've never tried it with a lemon though, so I'm not sure! Probably the same as oranges in my opinion! Lemons do float due to the peel. Without the peel, though they sink.

An unpeeled orange floats in water but a peeled orange sinks why?

The density of water is 1. With their peel on, the orange's density is less than 1. However, without the peel, the orange's density is greater than 1. Density > 1 (Float) Density < 1 (Sink) Mass ÷ Volume = Density Mass ÷ Density = Volume Density × Volume = Mass
