Because not all of them find conditions that are suitable for germination. After germination a number will die or be eaten by pests, killed or damaged mechanically, die because of drought, frost etc.

The more seeds the greater chance for the survival of a few plants.

Only a small number will survive to grow into other plants. The more seeds, the more plants that will grow from the seeds.

Why do plants produce seeds in fruit?

A fruit is the part of a flowering plant that contains the seeds. The fruit protects the seeds and also helps to spread them. Many fruits are good to eat and attract small animals, such as birds and squirrels, who like to feed on them. The seeds pass through them unharmed and then get spread through their droppings.

Is the sentence Plants produce fruit to provide food for animals accurate?

No, it isn't. This is because plants produce fruit so that animals will eat it, digest it, and spread the plant's seeds away from the parent plant.

Why do plants need seeds?

plants use seeds to carry on their species so that they will not become extinct.

What is the difference between seed plants and plants without seeds?

Plants which do not have seeds have been engineered to lose the seeds because they are preferred by consumers. Plants without seeds could be due to the fact that the flowers have not been developed. As the fruit matures, seeds will develop. When you plant a potato because there are sprouts coming out of the eyes or nodes, you are able to plant them because the potato is a underground stem. Plants without seeds reproduce asexually using spores, like mosses and ferns; plants with seeds use sexual reproduction with pollination.

Why do plant seeds need to be scattered?

Plant seeds need to be scattered because if there are too many germinating plants growing in one spot then there will be over-crowding and compitition for light, oxygen, nutrients in soil and other resources. The slightly shorter plants won't receive enough light or oxygen for growth and will die because these vital resources will be blocked by the taller plants. Chances of diseases will increase that will lead to detoriation of human and plant health.

Why do desert plants produce many seeds in the desert?

Most of the seeds will be eaten by birds and rodents, some will be washed away in flash floods or wind storms. Few seeds will survive to possibly grow in the future. Plants produce so many seeds to assure the survival of the species.

Why do most plants produced many more seeds than will ever become adult plants?

It is a numbers game. Most plants produce more seeds than are likely to become adult plants BECAUSE so many seeds fail to grow to adulthood. If they did not overproduce, the species would die out. In fact, one way to measure the "effectiveness" of a plant's seeds is to look at how many it produces. Plants that produce the most seeds in comparison with the seed survival rate are those that have ineffective seeds. Plants that produce fewer seeds generally have more effective ways of ensuring that the seed survives to produce the next generation of plants. Some of the ways that plants use to increase the effectiveness of their seeds are by protecting them with shells (so that they are resistant to the weather), making them larger (so that they have a lot of stored food to give them a good start), making them taste good to birds (so they will be eaten and deposited along with fertilizer).

Why does marijuana have so many seeds?

It must of somehow been pollinated during flowering... and or was a male plant. Female plants produce no seeds.

Why do plants produce so many seed?

Because most seeds don't make it to adulthood and if they didn't over produce the population would die

Why do fruits produce seeds?

All plants and animals have some form of reproduction whether it be seeds or underground runners, eggs or live birth.

Why are so many seeds produced?

By a plant? To ensure maximum survival. The more you produce, the more likely it is that some survive. It's evolution at its simplest. Plants usually produce far more seeds than are needed. This is because many seeds don't survive and grow to maturity

What do mature plants produce?

It depends on the type of plant but in most cases plants exist to survive or procreate so they produce either a food store or seeds.
