The difference is in the air resistance. Without air resistance, both will accelerate at the same rate. If there is air, in the case of the stone the ratio of surface area / weight is less than that of a feather. As a result, the stone will slow down less than the feather, and fall faster.

How do falling objects behave?

Falling objects behave in such a way that heavier objects will fall faster than the lighter ones. Try to drop a stone and a feather from the same height and at the same time, the stone will fall to the ground first.

Would a feather fall faster than a stone in a vacuum?

No, they would fall at the same speed, as there exists no air-resistance. They would accelerate at the same tempo and hit the ground at the same time.

Why is a stone heavier than a feather?

A stone has more mass than a feather. And it is not hollow.

Why does a coin fall down faster than a feather?

Because the feather has a massive amount of air resistance. The coin is small and dense, so it falls through the air much easier.

Will a hammer fall faster than a feather on the moon?

No. Both will accelerate at about 1.6 meters per second square.

Which force makes a feather fall to the ground more slowly than a stone?

The feather falls slower because it has air restistance. The air pushes up on it. The rock falls faster because it's mass and how it doesn't have air resistance. Also, because toilet seats produce a gas, reacting with the feathers on a feather, making the feather rise.

Why do lighter objects fall slower than heavy objects?

It doesn't. But what makes a book fall faster (seemingly) than a feather or piece of paper (lets say) is air pressure, and the way it is shaped.

What is faster than the wind and quieter than a feather?

Why is feather lighter than stone?

Which is faster to reach ground feather or ball in free fall?

In vacuum they reach ground exactly at the same time. In a medium other than vacuum the ball will reach ground first.

A feather will fall through the air more slowly than a brick because of?

because feather's weight is negligible as compare to force of gravityA feather will fall through the air more slowly than a brick because it is lighter than a brick and it's small fur on it will slow it down
