To make it simple its because the moon is closer to us. Like, if u put your thumb in front of your face and your looking at a car from a couple yards away your thumb would seem larger.

What are eclipse size?

Eclipse size refers to the apparent size of the moon or the sun as observed during an eclipse. In a solar eclipse, the size of the moon relative to the sun determines whether it is a total, partial, or annular eclipse. During a total eclipse, the moon completely covers the sun, while in an annular eclipse, the moon is smaller than the sun, leaving a ring of sunlight visible. The size of the eclipse can vary based on the distance of the moon and sun from Earth, as well as the observer's location.

A ring eclipse is?

Also known as Annular, it would be a total Solar eclipse if the Moon were nearer the Earth at the time (the Moon's orbit is not a perfect circle). The further the Moon is from the Earth, the smaller it appears and thus cannot completely cover the Sun.

What is the moon is on the earth shadow?

What are three different kinds of eclipse?

Total. The Moon totally covers the Sun.Annular. The Moon is in line with the Sun, but the distance between the two doesn't produce a total eclipse.Partial. The Moon only partially covers the Sun.There is also the hybrid eclipse where it shifts between a total and an annular, but these are rare.

What phrase is the moon when there is a total solar eclipse?

A total solar eclipse only occurs when there is a new moon.

In what phase of the moon can a total eclipse occur?

Solar eclipse (total or otherwise): at new moon. Lunar eclipse (total or otherwise): at full moon. -- Immediately after a Solar eclipse you get a new crescent moon appearing in the sky. Obviously therefore the eclipse happens at the point when the side of the moon that faces us is in total shadow - indeed during the eclipse we are covered by that shadow. -- Immediately after a lunar eclipse, as soon as the moon moves out of the shadow, it is full.

Why does our moon which is smaller then the sun produce a total eclipse of the sun?

The moon can block the sun from view despite being much smaller than the sun because it is also much closer to us. In the same line of logic, you can look at a person on the other side of the room and block their head from view with your thumb, even though your thumb is much smaller than their head.
