Either it is leaking out of the engine, or the piston rings/ valve seals are shot and the engine is burning oil.
Because that SOHC Aint cutting it nomore and your Civic is wanting you 2 B16 motor swap it!! :)
The 2002 Honda Civic (all trim levels) can hold up to 4.4 quarts or oil. So, it's best to put at least 4 quarts with every oil change.

We use oil so much because its an everyday environmetal use. We use oil for gas, transportation, electronics, cellphones and companies to reproduce goods etc. But we are using oil more than its being produced. And eventually we will run out of oil. Well, all Honda's burn oil. It's how they last so long and very rarely seize up. Most cars end up burning their piston rings etc and this causes all kinds of problems. Hondas will burn oil so its best to check the oil once a week and maybe use 5w/40 oil.

On the right side of the transmission there should be a bolt. The size of it is a 17mm. So use a 17mm wrench to loosen it. The transmission usually takes about 3 quarts of 10-30w motor oil or you could use 10-40w motor oil.
